Using Philosophy Behind Prison Walls

  • Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women Troy, VA (map)

Marietta returns to gather with two groups of students at the Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women. On November 28th she brings Zen Buddhism to Dr. Ben Sloan's Piedmont Virginia Community College course on World Literature, discussing with students the influence of Zen principles on Japanese literature, especially poetry. On December 11, Marietta will share her new book, Leaving 1203, with participants in the Buddhist Studies group. How many Buddhist principles might they discover together inside 1203? What about compassion, non-attachment, unity, the power of concentration, and the serenity found in silence?
